Counseling for Those Who Serve and the Families Who Serve Alongside Them

Whether you are active-duty, a reservist, a veteran, or the spouse or child holding things together at home, your service leaves a mark civilian life does not always understand. At Restoration Pointe Counseling Center, you work with people who know military culture from the inside. Our founder, Alicia M. Rincones, is a U.S. Navy veteran and Licensed Professional Counselor, and she built this practice so that veterans counseling and military family therapy in Hampton Roads would feel less like explaining yourself and more like being understood.

A Counselor Who Gets It

There is a difference between a therapist who has read about deployment and one who has lived the rhythm of orders, sea duty, and homecomings that never feel quite the way you imagined. Alicia Rincones served in the Navy before becoming a counselor, and that shapes how RPCC works with the military community. You will not have to translate acronyms, justify the culture, or soften the hard parts so a stranger can follow along.

We meet you as a whole person, not a diagnosis or a discharge status, and we honor your service without turning it into a cliche. Restoration Pointe is a veteran-led private practice. We are not the VA, TRICARE, or any government program, and we make no promises about benefits, only a commitment to walk with you through what you carry.

Deployment, Reintegration, and the Long Way Home

Coming home is rarely the simple relief people expect. After months of operating at full alert, everyday life can feel too slow, too loud, or strangely disconnected. Reintegration asks you to shift roles overnight, to slide back into a household that kept running without you, to be present when part of you is still overseas. Irritability and a sense of not fitting in are common, and they do not mean you are broken.

We work with the whole arc of deployment stress, from the strain before departure to the recalibration that follows a return, so the person who left and the family who waited can find each other again on new ground.

Transitioning to Civilian Life

Leaving the service can feel like losing a language, a mission, and a built-in community all at once. The structure that once defined your days is gone, and questions about identity and purpose can surface with surprising force. Many veterans describe feeling adrift even when the paperwork says everything is fine. Counseling gives you a steady place to grieve what is behind you and build a direction that fits the life you are living now. Whether you separated last month or years ago, you do not have to find your footing alone.

Combat Trauma, PTSD, and Moral Injury

Some experiences do not stay in the past the way we wish they would. Combat trauma and PTSD can show up as intrusive memories, hypervigilance, nightmares, emotional numbness, or a nervous system that never quite stands down. These are injuries, not character flaws, and they respond to skilled, patient care.

Moral injury is its own kind of wound, the ache that comes from actions taken, witnessed, or left undone that collide with your deepest sense of right and wrong. Survivor guilt can weigh just as heavily, especially when you made it home and others did not. At RPCC we may draw on approaches such as EMDR, trauma-focused and CPT-style cognitive work, Internal Family Systems, and mindfulness, always at a pace you set.

The Load Military Spouses and Children Carry

Service is a family experience. Military spouses hold down households through deployments and duty rotations, absorb the stress of frequent moves, restart careers and friendships in each new place, and often become the steady harbor everyone depends on, with little space to name their own exhaustion. That load is real, and it deserves care of its own.

Children feel the rhythm of military life too, from the ache of a parent's absence to the disruption of changing schools and leaving friends behind. We offer counseling for children ages six and up, for teens, and for the family as a whole, helping young people name big feelings and giving families tools to stay connected across separations and moves.

Signs It May Be Time to Reach Out

Many people wait far longer than they need to, telling themselves they should be able to handle it. If any of these feel familiar for you or someone you love, counseling may help.

  • Trouble sleeping, nightmares, or exhaustion that rest does not fix
  • Anger, irritability, or a short fuse that surprises you and those close to you
  • Feeling numb, distant, or disconnected from people you care about
  • Flashbacks, intrusive memories, or staying on high alert long after the danger has passed
  • Guilt over what happened, what you did, or the fact that you came home
  • Struggling to adjust after a deployment or after leaving the service
  • Strain in your marriage, your parenting, or your daily family life
  • Turning to alcohol or other habits to quiet what you are feeling

How We Work With You

No two service stories are the same, so we start by listening, then shape the work around your goals and your pace. Because our founder has worn the uniform, cultural competence with the military community is not an add-on here; it is the ground we stand on.

We serve individuals of every age, from children and teens to adults and elders, along with couples and families. Sessions are available in person at our Norfolk and Newport News offices and through secure telehealth anywhere in Virginia, so that PCS timelines, duty schedules, and drive times do not stand between you and support.

  • Trauma-focused care, including EMDR and trauma-focused CBT
  • CPT-style cognitive work for PTSD and moral injury
  • Internal Family Systems and mindfulness-based tools
  • Couples and family therapy for reintegration and connection
  • Counseling for military children and teens ages six and up
  • Faith-integrated support, offered always and only when welcomed

What to Expect

Reaching out is often the hardest step, so we try to make it simple. You can start with a free consultation, an unhurried conversation to share what is going on and ask your questions, with no obligation and no pressure, just a chance to see whether RPCC feels like the right fit.

From there, we match you with a counselor and set a rhythm that works for you, in our Norfolk or Newport News office or by telehealth across Hampton Roads and Virginia. Like a lighthouse holding steady through rough water, our aim is to be a dependable point of return while you find your own way through the storm. When you are ready, call us at (757) 735-5958.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be enrolled in the VA or use TRICARE to come here?

No. Restoration Pointe Counseling Center is a veteran-led private practice, not the VA, TRICARE, or any government program. We are a team that understands military life and is ready to work with you. We are glad to answer questions about getting started during your free consultation.

I am still active-duty. Can you help with deployment or reintegration stress?

Yes. We work with active-duty members, reservists, veterans, and their families through every phase of the deployment cycle. Secure telehealth across Virginia makes it easier to stay consistent even with a demanding schedule.

My spouse serves, but I am the one struggling. Is counseling for me too?

Absolutely. Military spouses and children carry a real and often invisible load, from frequent moves to long separations. We offer support for spouses, for children ages six and up, and for families together, because service touches everyone in the household.

Will faith be part of my counseling?

Only if you want it to be. Faith-integrated counseling is offered always and only when welcomed, and it is never imposed. If it is not what you are looking for, your care will focus entirely on your goals without it.

Where are you located, and do you offer telehealth?

We have offices in Norfolk and Newport News, Virginia, and we provide secure telehealth throughout Hampton Roads and across the state. You are welcome to meet in person or online, whichever fits your life best.
